we took the opportunity to get some work done around the house, but decided to take time for a nice dinner & movie (the hangover- funny!) on tuesday night. we hit café ena, which is a block from our house!
this places never misses- authentic latin american grub. we split a fantastic strawberry/mango salad, garnished with warm goat cheese fritters.
mmmm. lara had blackened salmon with pineapple salsa & asparagus and plantains while i went with grilled jumbo shrimp wrapped in prosciutto over asparagus & artichokes…..
delicious. i can’t recommend this place enough.
thursday night, i went with a couple of friends to check out scott h. biram. i’ve blogged on him before as i make sure to not miss his show when he rolls through town. i found a sweet-o biram concert poster at an art show several months ago and brought it along tonight with hopes that i could have him sign it. we got there a little early and i caught him walking around the bar during the opening act. he was very cool and chatted for a couple of minutes and graciously signed. he must have like my name as he signed it, “tickle- don’t touch me there. scott h. biram”. nice. gotta get that jewel framed.
he was not as out of control this time, and put on a more cohesive set….blending older songs with tracks from the new record.
he’s still a one man wrecking crew. check out this video of one of his newer songs….
on saturday, we had to run 17.5 miles……getting up there. the race is oct 11 and will be here before you know it. for dinner, we planned to hit the bulldog in north east for a burger but they did not have booster seats OR highchairs!!??! so, we walked across the street and grabbed a bite at keegan’s irish pub.
it always seems like irish pubs have consistently good food……not the best ever but good. and keegan’s fit the bill.
good place for kids.
in fact, there was another young family eating next to us. and, i got to see the twins game while we had fish n’ chips and a burger.
on the way back to the car, we passed by surdyks….one of the best beer/wine/cheese stores i have ever been to.
they have stuff from all over the world and it is very popular. we stopped in and the place was packed.
on sunday, we hit our neighborhood (kingfield) farmer’s market.
we ate at the renound chef shack.
this place is getting the reputation as the premiere market food in the twin cities. they make everything from scratch and offer cuisine from around the world. they make enough money during the summer to spend the winter in various countries studying the food for next year’s market. today we had the pulled pork nachos.
very, very good.
that evening we were back to the bandshell and checked out the mn symphony again. and again, the place was packed.
lara made some grub, we set up a blanket and had a nice relaxing evening.
lydia & i hit the snack bar for some treats.
note: i was informed by lara that giant chilly willy’s are not a good snack for a toddler…..lydia (and me) were making a mess.
good week.
